Chester Canal

1772 James Brindley started work on the Chester Canal, another part of his ambitious Grand Cross network. It was constructed to run from the River Dee near Seal and Road, to Nantwich in south Cheshire

1774 Canal opened.

1813 The Ellesmere Canal merged with the Chester Canal, forming the Ellesmere and Chester Canal company.
