"CHARLES WILLIAM HUNT, whose death in his eighty-first year occurred on 27th January 1946, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1919 and was transferred to Membership in 1927. He was educated at the Yorkshire College, Leeds, and served his apprenticeship from 1880 to 1886 with Messrs. Fairbairn, Naylor, Macpherson and Company, Ltd., of the same city. After holding various temporary appointments including that of chief draughtsman and assistant engineer to the British Water Gas Syndicate, of Leeds, he went to Ireland in 1894 to become assistant manager and engineer to Messrs. Philip Pierce and Company, of Wexford. On his return from Dublin, where for three years he had been in charge of the drawing office and assistant works manager for Messrs. William Spence, Ltd., he joined the staff of the Selson Engineering Company, Ltd., of London and Coventry, as technical representative and agent and began a connection which lasted for thirty years. He vacated this appointment in 1930 on becoming area representative for Messrs. Thomas W. Ward, Ltd., of Sheffield, with whom he remained until 1935 when he finally went into business on his own account as a consulting engineer and agent for various engineering firms."
