App. Day, Summers and Co., Engrs. and Shipbuilders, Southampton; afterwards remained with firm 5 years; 1884-93, with P. and O. Steam Navigation Co. as Sea-going Engr.; Engr.-in-charge of Hog Island Hydraulic Lift Dock, Bombay, and Res. Inspecting Engr. at the building of the S.S. " Malacca " and " Formosa," Barrow-in-Furness; then practised as Cons. Engr. and Naval Arch. in Southampton until 1900.
