1844 Born in Tasmania the son of William Stanley Sharland (1801–1877) and his wife Frances Sarah Schaw (1816–1859)

1862 Came to England with his brother, William Cockburn Sharland, who became a barrister

Worked on the Maryport and Carlisle Railway

1871 July (March) 31st. Died at Torquay from Tuberculosis and buried at Barton Road Cemetery
