We record with regret the death of Mr. Charles Nicholson, O.B.E., which occurred at his home on Saturday of last week.
Mr. Nicholson, who was eighty-five at the time of his death, has been for many years one of Britain's leading yacht designers and was responsible for many famous yachts, including "Shamrock IV" and "Endeavour," which were challengers for the America's Cup.
Apart from racing yachts, Mr. Nicholson was interested in the evolution of the motor yacht, and one of these, the "Philanti," designed in 1937, is now the Norwegian Royal Yacht Norge."
Mr. Nicholson was the first Freeman of Gosport and a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights.
