CHARLES MORISON JOHNSTON was associated with the electrical side of mechanical engineering during the whole of his career and had held the position of borough electrical engineer at Shrewsbury for the very long period of forty years.

He was born in 1874 and after two years' experience as chief assistant was, in 1895, appointed borough electrical engineer at Lancaster at the early age of 21. This position he relinquished four years later to take up his final appointment at Shrewsbury. Mr. Johnston was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1900 and was transferred to Membership in 1904. He was also a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.

Since 1939 he had been living in retirement at Shrewsbury, where his death occurred on 2nd August 1944.
