Charles Jasper Glidden (August 29, 1857 – September 11, 1927) was an American telephone pioneer, financier and supporter of the automobile in the United States. Charles Glidden, with his wife Lucy, were the first (in 1902) to circle the world in an automobile, and repeated the feat in 1908

1905 June. 'Having made an automobile tour of the world, traversing twenty-four countries and visiting" 8,000 towns and cities, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glidden, of Lowell, Massachusetts, reached home on Tuesday, thus completing 25,000 miles of motoring.'[5]
1908 March.'Mr. Charles Glidden, Boston, Massachusetts, who has been touring the world since 1901, and has already motored 43,168 miles through thirty-seven countries, out of a projected total 50,000 miles.'[6]
