Charles Herbert Thompson
Charles Herbert Thompson FCS. He was trained as a chemist and had many commercial interests in England and France.
1874 Born in Broseley, son of Patrick Thompson 52, master boot maker and his wife Mary A. Thompson 44[1]
1895 Thompson invented Verre sur Verre enamelled glass.
He established a glassworks, trading as Thompson L'Hospied, opposite his home.
1896 Married Edith Grice in Stourbridge[2], daughter of Edwin Grice, one of the Stourbridge district's finest glass engravers.
He was also a director of Thompson L'Hospied of Golfe Juan in the South of France, which produced art nouveau pottery.
1901 Charles H Thompson 27, Mechanical (?) Thompson L'Hospied and Co (trade), working on own account, lived in Stourbridge with Edith Thompson 31[3]
1903 Of Platts Works, Amblecote, patented "Improvements in the Manufacture of Bricks, Tiles, Slabs, and the like."
1904 Communicated a patent from Charles L'Hospied of Golfe Juan, Vallauris, France, on "Improvements relating to Gas Furnaces."
1904 With Maw and Co, patented "Improvements in and relating to Glass Tiles, Slabs or the like."
He formed the Crystaline Company as well as operating the firms of Bullers Ltd in Tipton and Thompson L'Hospied and Co Ltd near Stourbridge. He also owned an art pottery near to that of Clement Massier at Golfe Juan in the South of France[4].
1909 With Warne, Wright and Rowland patented "Improvements in Wheels and Rims for Motors and other Road Vehicles".
One of his daughters, Trixie, married Gilbert Boulton of the Audnam glass manufacturing firm Boulton and Mills.
For a time he was a director of the Audnam glass manufacturing firm Boulton and Mills
1913 An engineer, of Stourbridge, when he joined the Prudence Lodge in Birmingham
1924 Consulting chemist, of Battenhall Road, Worcester[5]
1925 With Nathaniel Martin of Wolverhampton patented "Improvements in and relating to the manufacture of iron alloys".
1925 and 1926 With William Joseph McGivern of Lower Bebington patented "New or improved bitumen emulsion and process for its production" and similar patents
1927 Of the Thompson Laboratories, of Mount Battenhall, patented "Improvements in and relating to the manufacture of bricks; tiles, and other moulded articles made from sand and lime"
1928 Of the Thompson Laboratories, of Mount Battenhall, patented "Improvements in and relating to the manufacture of electrical porcelain insulators."
1930 With Henry Edward Alcock and George Thomas Shine patented "Improvements in and relating to the method and means for production of barium monoxide in tunnel ovens"
1932 Consulting chemist, of Battenhall Road, Worcester[6]
1934 of Claines, died[7]
