CHARLES HENRY JONES was born at Huddersfield on 29th July 1846.
He was educated at Huddersfield College and at Mill Hill School.
He served his apprenticeship at Derby, in the works of the Midland Railway Company, of which his father was a director, and after holding various positions, became, in 1888, Assistant Locomotive Superintendent, a post which he occupied until his retirement in 1905.
During his time he served under Mr. Kirtley, Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Deeley, and handled with success several important strikes.
He was keenly interested in the ambulance movement on the railway, and was Chairman of the Ambulance Committee and President of the Locomotive Ambulance Corps. After his retirement Its became a District Councillor and member of the Board of Guardians, and served on many local committees in Derby and Duffield.
He died at Duffield, on 19th August 1914, at the age of sixty-eight.
He was elected a Member of this Institution in 1871.
