CHARLES EDWARD WILLIAM BRIXEY was born at Dorchester on 21st June 1881.

His early education was received at the Rayner Commercial School, Southampton, after which he studied in technical subjects from 1895 to 1899 at the Hartley University College in the same town.

In 1898 he began an apprenticeship in the locomotive works and sheds of the London and South Western Railway at Northam and Nine Elms, and on its completion is 1902 he was engaged as a draughtsman at the works of Messrs. J. Simpson and Co., of London.

In the following year he went to Lahore, Punjab, as assistant works manager of the North Western Railway, and superintended locomotive construction and repairs in their engineering shops.

Owing to ill-health he returned after six months to his former position at Messrs. Simpson's.

Shortly afterwards he went to Colombo as Instructor of Engineering in the Government Technical College, and returned to England in 1909 on the closing of the College.

His next appointment was in the Federated Malay States, where he became Instructor of Engineering in the Government Technical School at Kaala Lampur.

In September 1910 he was invalided home, and his death took place from consumption at Winchester on 31st December 1910, in his thirtieth year.

He was elected an Associate Member of this Institution in 1904.
