of Canal Works, Sheffield

1751 Company established

The 1903 O.S. map[1] shows the Canal Steel Works on the south bank of the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal (Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation). The site is bounded by Cadman Street, Lumley Street, and, to the east, the Midland Railway line. Immediately west, across Cadman Street, was part of the Sheaf Works, the proximity of whose steam hammers caused a great deal of nuisance to Cadman's, as related in the Sheaf Works entry.
