1898 Compagnie Générale d’Électricité (CGE) was founded, a holding company working in industry operations and electricity companies.
1913 CGE became CGEE – the predecessor of Cegelec.
1970s The electrical installation market underwent a profound change. CGEE merged with the electrical divisions of Alsthom and SGE to create CGEE Alsthom.
1984 CGEE Alsthom merged with a number of other companies as GTIE.
1991 Name changes[1]
- Cegelec Controls was previously GEC Controls and is now the UK subsidiary of Cegelec of France. Each of the UK Cegelec companies adopted the parent's name:
- Cegelec Projects, previously GEC Electrical Projects
- Cegelec Industrial Controls, previously GEC Industrial Controls
- Cegelec Power Instrumentation and Control, previously GEC Power Instrumentation and Control
1998 GEC Alsthom acquired Cegelec and was then listed on the Paris Stock Exchange with a change of name to ALSTOM. GEC and Alcatel sold part of their stakes in the capital (23.6% each) [2]. GEC Alsthom and Cegelec Projects were reunited as Alstom
