1866 The Crawshay Brothers of the Cyfarthfa Ironworks opened this pit. [1]

1896 There were 686 men working this pit. [2]

1908 The work force had grown to 1272 men. [3]

1918 There were now 1355 men reported to be working at the Castle Pit. [4]

1920's During the 1920's the Pit was linked with South Duffryn Colliery and then owned by the Plymouth Iron Co. [5]
