The Canadian Pacific had an advantage over its 2 Canadian trans-continental rivals of gathering its own traffic for itself on both the East and West Coasts and being able to keep it in its own hands throughout the journey.
1891 Canadian Pacific Railways adopted a new name for its shipping interests: the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company which became one of the many shipping companies operating in and out of Liverpool.
