Post-WWII: When the requirement for military aircraft diminished, but aluminium was abundant, the Bristol Aeroplane Co made pre-fabricated houses and schools, many of which were exported around the world in kit form.
These included the Alcrete house, made of aluminium, alloy and a concrete substance, materials which are not in seriously short supply.[1]. The AIROH house was an all-aluminium bungalow assembled from four sections. The proposed rate of production of complete houses was to be one every twelve minutes.
1949 Orders have already placed with the Bristol Aeroplane Co (Housing) Ltd. for schools of this construction by 19 different authorities, and four were opened by the Minister of Education at Bristol in March[2]
1951 "...County Education Committee had provisionally accepted the tender of the Bristol Aeroplane Co. (Housing) Ltd., amounting to £21,455 for the supply, building and erection of the aluminium component parts of the Winthorpe ..."[3]
Post 1953: did not find any news of the company.
