This small colliery was located just north of Branthwaite railway station (see upper right on the map at this link) and operated between about 1900 and 1923.

A more detailed listing with sources can be viewed at this link (to follow). In particular, a map and more information on the development of the colliery, its officers and managers has been included.

First mentioned in 1900, the colliery was owned and operated by William West and his brothers Robert and John. A drift mine, it produced ganister and fire clay as well as coal.

1920 Colliery passed into the ownership of the United Steel Companies Limited.

1923 Colliery abandoned.
