1889 After the headquarters of the I Mech E were moved to London, a new association was formed in Birmingham, to meet the needs of the engineering community there. This was called the Birmingham Association of Foremen Engineers and Draughtsmen.

1891 The name of the Association was changed to the Birmingham Association of Mechanical Engineers
