1841 The Gas Company was formed

1856 BIRKENHEAD DISTRICT GAS AND WATER WORKS . Reconstitution of the Birkenhead and Claughton Gas and Water Company; Change of Name; Alteration and Extension of Powers; Additional ...[1]

1858 the gas company was acquired by the Corporation.

1859 The BIRKENHEAD COMMISSIONERS created bonds for the Purchase of the Birkenhead Gas and Water Works and the Revenues thereof[2]

By 1900 Carburetted Water Gas plant was in use.

1912 Woodall-Duckham Vertical Retort plant installed, previously Horizontal Retort had been used.

1925 new Horizontal Retort installed built by Gibbons Brothers of Dudley.

c.1948 Vested in the North Western Gas Board from the Birkenhead Corporation

1968 Gas production ceased.
