BENJAMIN JOSEPH JOHN GOULDING, as printing machinery sales manager for the Linotype and Machinery Company, was responsible for the installation of printing plant in all the leading newspaper offices in London and the Provinces.
He first joined the Linotype Company, then known as the Machinery Trust, in 1899, and was for a number of years technical sales representative in London. He was transferred during the War to the firm's works at Altrincham and in 1919 was appointed works manager.
In 1924 he returned to London to take up the duties of printing machinery sales manager.
Since 1928 Mr. Goulding had concentrated his efforts on the newspaper machinery branch of the business.
He was born at sea in 1875, and commenced his apprenticeship in 1891 at the works of Messrs. R. Hoe and Company.
On the conclusion of his apprenticeship in 1896 he joined The Liquid Fuel Engine Company of the Isle of Wight for a few months and later became works manager for Messrs. J. Foster and Sons of London and Preston.
His death occurred on 7th March 1932.
He was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1897, an Associate Member in 1901, and was transferred to Membership in 1918.
