Carries a road across the River Crouch in Battlebridge, Essex.
A cast iron bridge replaced the ancient stone bridge in 1855. This was destroyed by a passing traction engine in 1871, and was replaced in 1871 by a new bridge having a central span of cast iron arches,, with two masonry jack arches. It was designed by the County Surveyor, Henry Stock, and built by William Webster of London.
Geograph entry here shows that the bridge has been strengthened. Pragmatism has trumped elegance in this case.
