1890 Company founded

1935 Became public company formed as Barton and Sons (1935).

1937 Subsidiaries included the Clydesdale Stamping Co, Barton Conduits, and the Bolt and Nut Co (Tipton).[1]

1937 Acquired Wright, Anderson and Co.[2]

1938 Name changed.

1938 Acquired Premier Aluminium Castings Co, Harrison Brothers (England), and Metal Frames.[3]

1939 Acquired John Fellows Ltd of Bilston.[4]

1960 Barton and Sons, tubing and conduit makers of Dudley, acquired Crown Stamping, drop forgers of Willenhall, which had surplus land that would be used by other Barton companies[5]

1961 Group manufacture conduit tubes and fittings, drop forgings, press forgings, bolts, nuts, aluminium castings, steel shot and grit, buckles, springs, spring washers, hand tools and magnetic seperaters, structural steel work. 2,500 employees.

1963 Acquired H. D. Jackson and Co.[6]

1963 Jackson, a member of the Barton group of companies, would manufacture zip fasteners under licence from the French company, Prestil.[7].

1963 Acquired Alfred Beebee.[8]

1963 Acquired Walton and Co (Wolverhampton) [9]

1965 Barton Conduits, a member of the Barton group of companies, had success in its export drive.[10]

1969 The quoted public company was still Barton and Sons.

1977 Staveley Industries owned a "protective stake" in Barton and Sons[11]

1980 Announced the closure of its subsidiary Wright, Anderson and Co.[12]

1981 the public quoted company became Barton Group.[13]

1983 Caparo Industries acquired Staveley's stake in Barton Group of Birmingham, makers of tubing and provider of industrial services and engineering, and then bought the remainder[14]
