Born at Southwark the son of William Newlands and his wife Mary Sarah Reina

1866 Married. 'At St. Giles's, Camberwell, Mr. B. E. R. Newlands, F.C.S., youngest son of the late Rev. W. Newlands, M.A., West-square Southwark, to Mary A., eldest daughter of Mr. C. Jenner, De Crespigny-terrace, Denmark-hill, 10th inst.'[1]

1869 Patent. B. E. R. Newlands, Charlton, Kent analytical chemist — Improvements in the manufacture of manure and in the production of salts of ammonia.[2]

1875 Manager of Clyde Wharf.[3]

1877 B. E. R. Newlands, Esq., F.C.S., manager of Clyde Wharf Sugar Refinery.[4]
