AUGUSTUS MONTAGUE INNES received his technical education at the Holbeck Mechanics Institute, Leeds, and served his apprenticeship from 1886 to 1888 with Messrs. Burlingham Innes and Company at Hitchin, and from 1889 to 1902 at the works of Messrs. J. and H. McLaren in Leeds.
After two years' study in the engineering and physical laboratories at Cambridge University, he was appointed draughtsman to Messrs. G. H. Innes and Company at Hitchin in 1895 and became manager in the same works in 1900. He held this position until 1915, when on the reconstruction of the firm under the designation of Messrs. Innes, Sons and King, Ltd., agricultural engineers, he took over the duties of general supervisor at the firm's head offices. He held this appointment until his retirement in 1934.
Mr. Innes, whose death occurred on 10th April 1941, in his seventy-first year, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1903.
