"ARTHUR WOODS ATKINSON was born in 1885, and received his education at the Blackburn Technical College.
After serving his apprenticeship in the shops and drawing office of Messrs. Yates and Thom, Ltd., engine builders, of Blackburn, from 1899 to 1906, he joined the staff of Messrs. Hick, Hargreaves and Company, Ltd., of Bolton, as a draughtsman, with whom he remained for six years. He then returned to Messrs. Yates and Thom and was engaged as leading draughtsman until 1927, when he took up his final appointment as chief draughtsman and surveyor to Messrs. J. Blake, Ltd., water supply engineers, of Accrington.
His death occurred, while on business for the firm, at Hereford on 26th May 1949. Mr. Atkinson, who was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1917, was an assistant lecturer in mathematics and engineering subjects at Blackburn Technical College from 1916 to 1926."
