ARTHUR WILLIAM SELBY, B.Sc. (Eng.), whose untimely death occurred on 11th May 1952 at the age of thirty-five, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1944.

He was educated at Woolwich Polytechnic, where he obtained the Diploma and graduated B.Sc. (Eng.) in 1938.

After serving an apprenticeship in the Royal Arsenal from 1933 to 1937 he was first employed as an electrical fitter and later was appointed second-class draughtsman. He was transferred to the machine-tool control in the Ministry of Supply in 1939 and after acting as a technical assistant for four years was promoted to the senior grade. More recently Mr. Selby had held the position of deputy assistant director.
