"ARTHUR HERBERT HEPWORTH was born in 1877 and served an apprenticeship with Yarrow and Company, Ltd., London, from 1892 to 1898. He then went to sea and in the course of fourteen years' service rose from junior to chief engineer and obtained a first-class Board of Trade certificate. After a short engagement as engineer in charge of erection and tests of turbo-plant for the British Westinghouse Company, Ltd., he was appointed chief engineer to the Frodingham Iron and Steel Company, Ltd., Scunthorpe.

In 1919 he took up a similar appointment with the Tata Engineering Company, Ltd., in India. His responsibilities in this capacity included all extensions to the steelworks and mining plant, in addition to the construction of hydro-electric power plant and the operation of the chemical works. After his return to Great Britain Mr. Hepworth was resident engineer to the Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers, Ltd., from 1929 to 1935, and for the next five years he held a similar position with Eastwoods Humber Cement, Ltd., his duties comprising the erection of new works, the installation of plant, and the operation of the concern. His final appointment, which he held from July 1940, was that of inspector in the Ministry of Supply. Mr. Hepworth had been a Member of the Institution since 1932. His death occurred on 2nd May 1951."
