ARTHUR GEORGE LUCKETT, whose death occurred on 9th August 1927, spent the whole of his professional career in the Royal Ordnance Factories at Woolwich, which he entered by examination as an engineering apprentice in 1890 at the age of 13. He was in course of time promoted to the technical supervisory staff and was closely associated with the introduction of automatic machines for the production of fuzes for shells in 1901. He later assisted in the formation of the rate-fixing branch. For some time he had charge of the manufacture of bullets for small arms ammunition, and during the War held the position of shop manager of the Small Arms Cartridge Factory No. 4. After the Armistice the organization of the production of memorial plaques in memory of those who fell in the War devolved upon him.
In 1922 he was appointed departmental rate-fixer of the Royal Laboratory, the Small Arms Ammunition Factory and the Mechanical Engineering Department.
Mr. Luckett became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1918.
