1925 Obituary.[2]

Yesterday the funeral took place at Loughton Cemetery of Mr. Arthur Boake, of Highstanding, Loughton, aged 81 years, senior director and founder of the Wellknown firm of A. Boake, Roberts, & Co., Ltd., chemical manufacturers, Carpenters Road, Stratford, and father of Mr. Edmund J. Boake, of Widfoid.

The deceased gentleman, whose genial and disposition had endeared him to a host of friends, had had a long illness, and the end came on Sunday from heart failure. A victim to phlebitis, he suffered amputation of a leg a few years ago. Besides his business calls, he devoted a great deal of time and interest to social work in Stratford, particularly in the Stratford creche, which he and Mrs. Boake started mans years ago. He was a liberal subscriber to many good causes, and his gift of £1,000 to the Forest Hospital, Buckhurst Hill, enabled the committee to instal the Rontgen rays.

He was one of the Plymouth Brethren, and chiefly by his generosity Forest Hall has been kept going. Only a week or so ago he offered £200 to the committee who are raising funds to purchase the ground of the Loughton C.C., but as a condition of the gift was that no Sunday games were ever to played on the ground, it was regretfully declined.

Mr. E. J. Boake, tho only son, who is one of the managing directors of Boake, Roberts. & Co., is chairman of the Widford Parish Council, and Mrs Boake fakes deep interest the Widford Women s Institute.
