Armitage Shanks, sanitaryware makers, of Barrhead, Hanley and other sites

1969 Armitage Ware Ltd merged with Shanks and Co to create Armitage Shanks.

Production of vitreous chinaware for export was concentrated at Barrhead; more complex, small production vitreous chinaware was focussed on Hanley

1974 Acquired Sherwood Woodwork

1980 At that time was organised as 4 operating division: ceramics, engineering, plastics, woodwork.

1980 Bid from Blue Circle Industries was agreed by the Armitage Shanks board but referred to the Competition Commission, which did not block the merger.
