of Arden Lime Works, Nitshill, Glasgow

Constructional Engineers

Established 1867.

1907 Allan Kirkwood Limited was registered as a private company, with capital of £10,000, to acquire as a going concern the business of lime and fire-clay goods manufacturer and merchant carried on by Allan Kirkwood, Arden Lime Works, and Darnley Fire-Clay Works, Nitshill.[1]

1922 Directors: Allan Kirkwood, John A. Kirkwood, John H. Anderson (also Sec).

1959 The company went into voluntary liquidation.[2] The company had faced problems prior to this. It placed a notice in the press to announce the resumption of production after a fire at the works.[3] Local parents had also raised concerns about a disused sand quarry that had over time become a deep pond and hazard to children, especially in the summer holidays.[4]
