Alfred Harris Vaux (1828-1873), civil engineer. East Indian Railway

Born the son of Calvert Bowyer Vaux, a Surgeon, and his wife Emily Brickworth.

Educated at Merchant Taylor's School

1849 Worked for Fox, Henderson and Co

1855 Worked with William Dargan

1855 April 09th. Married to Emily Williams

1855 Left for India with Emily to follow a year later.

Joined East Indian Railway

1865 Sailed for UK and his wife Emily and three surviving children but his wife died on the voyage

1866 He returned to India leaving his children with relatives

1867 Married at Christ Church, Croydon, to Caroline the daughter of George Holbrook Hollins of Birmingham.[1]

1873 October 16th. Died at Simla of Chlora aged 45. His pregnant wife returned to England with two children.
