1857 Pupil in his father's office

Later became a partner of his father's.

1870 Engineer to the Commissioners of the Ancholme Drainage and Navigation

1871 Surveyor to H.M. Commissioners of Sewers for the County of Lincoln

Also in private practice as a civil engineer

1885 Associate Member of the Inst Civil Engineers

1891 Living at 33 Bridge Street, Glanford Brigg, Lincs: Alfred Atkinson (age 58 born Brigg), Civil Engineer. With his wife Louisa and his two sisters and a brother John Atkinson (age 46 born Brigg), Civil Engineer.[1].

1927 Died. 'The death of Mr. Alfred Atkinson, of Brigg, has removed from North Lincolnshire one of its engineering pioneers, and one of the most brilliant civil engineers which the area has ever produced.'[2]
