ALEXANDER BEITH MCDONALD, late City Engineer of Glasgow, died on the 31st October, 1915.
Born at Stirling on the 12th August, 1847, he gained his early experience with Messrs. Smith and Wharrie, Engineers, of Glasgow.
In 1870 he entered the service of the Glasgow Corporation, whom he served for 45 years, retiring a few months before his death. For 25 years he filled the office of City Engineer, in which capacity he was responsible for a large number of important works, including the main drainage scheme, extensive wharves and abattoirs, and numerous public buildings.
He was elected a Member on the 7th April, 1891.
