Albert Fry
Albert Fry (1830–1903).
1830 July 27th. Born the son of Joseph Fry (1795-1879) and his wife Mary Anne Swaine (1797–1886)
He worked with John Fowler, Junior to develop and manufacture a drainage plough in the mid-19th century.
1851 Living at 2 Charlotte Street, Bristol (age 20). Agricultural Implement Maker. With his parents and siblings. [1]
1856 July 3rd. Married Catherine Richenda Falconer daughter of Lt-Col G. A. H. Falconer of the Madras Army at Saffron Walden [2] [3]
1856 of Fowler and Fry [4] that became A. and T. Fry then became Bristol Wagon Works Co and then the Bristol Wagon and Carriage Works Co.

1861 Living at Clifton Wood, Bristol (age 30 born Bristol), Agricultural Implement Maker and Ironfounder employing 110 men and 45 boys. With his wife Richenda C. (age 25 born East Indies) and their son Albert Manger Fry (age 3 born Bristol). Plus three servants. [6]

1871 Living at Winscombe, Somerset (age 40 born Bristol), Managing Director of the Bristol Wagon Works employing about 500 men. With his wife Catherine R. 1875 October 26th. Married at Clifton, Lucy Harriet Beadon Malthus the daughter of Sydenham Malthus of Clifton and and Hadstock, Essex. [12]
1881 Living at 8 Cambridge Park, Westbury on Trym (age 50 born Bristol), Managing Director of Wagon Works Company. With his wife Lucy H. B. (age 43 born Dartmouth) and daughter Luck K. (age 3 born Bristol). Also four servants. [13]
1891 Living at 8 Cambridge Park, Westbury on Trym (age 60 born Bristol), Mechanical Engineer. With his wife Lucy H. B. (age 53 born Dartmouth) and their children Albert M. (age 33 born Clifton, Bristol), Chocolate Maker; George F. (age 27 born Clifton, Bristol), Mechanical Engineer; and Lucy K. (age 13 born Redland, Bristol). Also four servants. [14]
He was a Chairman of the Council of the University of Bristol and, along with other members of his family and of the Wills family, a major donor

ALBERT FRY was born in Bristol on 27th July 1830.
After being educated at a private school in Clifton, he entered the engineering works of Messrs. Gilkes, Wilson and Co., Middlesbrough.
Subsequently he became proprietor of the Bristol Wagon Works, and on its conversion into a company he became managing director.
He was greatly interested in educational work, especially in the University College, Bristol, which largely owed its inception and successful career to his ability as Chairman of the Council.
His death took place at his residence in Bristol on 22nd April 1903, in his seventy-third year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1866.
