1901 The Institute was formed
1902 A general meeting was held at the St Bride's Foundation Institite. Dr F. A. Barton presided at the meeting. The safety of airships was discussed. It was decided to ask the members of the Aero Club, the Aeronautical Society of Great Britain and the Aeronautical Institute and Club to consider a centralised system of accreditation of aeronauts (ie pilots) and an system for examining machines to certify their airworthiness
