From Graces Guide

1824 Company formed. Erected gas works at Poynernook, near Guild Street.

During the first four years only oil-gas was manufactured

1828 the manufacture of coal-gas was started, which reduced the price.

1846 Amalgamated with the New Gas Light Co; the works at Poynernook were abandoned in favour of the other company's works at Sandiland.

1871 the whole undertaking was transferred to the Town Council by Act of Parliament.
