AEI Scientific Apparatus
The Scientific Apparatus Division of AEI, part of its Electronics Group
Presumably incorporated the Scientific and Testing Equipment work of Metrovicks
c.1949 AEI merged the X-ray interests of Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co, Newton and Wright Ltd and the Victor X-Ray Corporation into the new company Newton Victor Ltd[1].
1960 The AEI Instrument Division included the Scientific Apparatus Department[2]
1966 AEI Scientific Apparatus was a leader in the design of mass spectrometers and electron microscopes[3]
1968 Became part of GEC-Elliott Automation[4]
1969 The Division had 2 factories, at Manchester and Harlow; it was considered as a target for acquisition by Rank[5]
1969 GEC decided against selling the Division to Rank and instead formed it as a trading company called AEI Scientific Apparatus which was expected to grow fast[6]
1969 AEI Scientific Apparatus, in its factory at Harlow, completed the first commercial million-volt electron microscope to be built in Europe for delivery to the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwall[7]
1974 Signed co-operation agreement with Cameca, a subsidiary of Thomson-CSF, with the aim of rationalising R&D programmes and production[8]
