Several of the constituent companies of AEI had long-standing major activities in equipment for electricity generation and transmission
- Metropolitan-Vickers's activities had evolved from British Westinghouse's major activity in this area - see Metropolitan-Vickers: Electricity Generation and Transmission
- BTH business had been based on that of the Thomson-Houston Co - see BTH: Electricity Generation and Transmission
- Ferguson Pailin
1960 AEI established the Turbine Generator Division, the Transformer Division and the Switchgear Division, as well as Construction Division.
However it took several years before the company could report that the 3 divisions were well prepared to compete with specialist manufacturers in their range[1]
