1917 Wrote to The Engineer about the New Transport Co's scheme for mechanical handling of goods. In the letter he did not mention his own interest in the subject. He was taking expert advice from James Swinburne and Dr Hele-Shaw in relation to the proposal.[3]
1920 The new Department of Transport established a Departmental Committee to look into the subject of mechanical handling of goods but the Committee dismissed almost every claim made for it.
Presumably A. W. Gattie was chairman of the Gattie Committee.
