VALENTINE, Alexander Balmain Bruce. President and Chairman of Council, Institute of Transport. Member of London Transport Executive. Born 22nd December, 1899. Educated at Highgate School; Worcester College, Oxford. Joined staff of Underground 1928 and became personal Assistant to the late Frank Pick, 1928-36. Commercial Officer, 1939. Chief Supplies Officer, 1943 and Chief Commercial Officer, 1945-47. Joined London Transport Executive on its formation in 1947. Recreations: Bird Watching, Fishing and Country Life. VALENTINE, George. Managing Director, Valentines Motors Ltd., Perth. Born Perth, 12th November, 1915. Educated at Perth Academy. Studied engineering at Birmingham Central Technical College. Son of late Frank D. Valentine, one of pioneers of Motor Industry in Central Scotland, and founder of above concern. Served apprenticeship with Austin Motor Co. Ltd., awarded Austin Cup for best apprentice of 1935. Member trials and rallies team, 1936-38. Served on main committees of firm's Apprentice Organisation. Joined Sales Staff of C. S. Buckley. Joined Army in 1939, commissioned, captured 1940. P.O.W. until 1945. Demobilised 1946 in rank of Major. Took up present position in that year. Director of St. Johnstone A.F.C. Member S.M.T.A. Council, their representative on B.M.T.A. Council. Past Chairman local Committee S.M.T.A. Recreations : Motor Sport, Golf, Curling. VASEY, Rennie Orenza, M.I.MECH.E. Born Scarborough, 27th April, 1888. Educated at St. Martin's Grammar School; Scarborough College; Hull and Birmingham Technical Schools. Became an apprentice with C. D. Holmes, Ltd., Marine Engineers, Hull. Joined Wolseley Tool & Motor Car Co. in Marine and Special Engine Department and afterwards worked in the Experimental Department and in the Laboratory. VERDON-ROE, Geoffrey. Managing Director, Saunders-Roe (Anglesey) Ltd., Beaumaris, Anglesey. Born Bursledon, Hants, 1st June, 1918. Educated Stowe School, Buckingham, and Southampton University. Son of Sir Alliott Verdon-Roe, pioneer in Aircraft design and construction. Three years' apprenticeship, SaundersRoe Ltd., Cowes. 1939, as Member of R.A.F.V.R., called for service with R.A.F. Released in 1940 for duty as Test Pilot, Saunders Roc Ltd. In 1941 appointed Senior Test Pilot, and Assistant Works Manager at Weybridge Factory. 1942, Sub-contract Manager, S-R. Ltd., Head Office, while remaining Senior Test Pilot. 1943, Production Engineer, Weybridge Factory, and Senior Test Pilot. 1946, became Works Manager at Saro Laminated Wood Products, Ltd. 1947, appointed Works Director. 1948, transferred to present concern as General Works Manager, while remaining a Director of S.L.W.P. Ltd., until March, 1950. June, 1948, appointed General Manager present concern. January, 195o, appointed Director, taking up present position following June. VIGNOLES, Charles Malcolm, O.B.E., M.A. Managing Director, Shell-Mex and B.P. Ltd. Born Grimsby, 19o1. Educated at Sedbergh; Magdalene College, Cambridge. (M.A. in Mechanical Science Tripos). In 1924 joined the Royal Dutch-Shell Group and served for eight years in the Far East. Later transferred to Fuel Oil Department of Shell Petroleum Company in London. During the early days of the war served on Overseas Supply Committee of the Petroleum Board. Later became Joint Executive Secretary. Was awarded the O.B.E. for his services in this connection, in 1946. Post-war appointed Eastern Area Manager, Shell, covering Far Eastern territories. In April, 1951, became Managing Director of Shell-Mex and B.P. Ltd., the marketing company in Britain for the Shell and Anglo-Iranian groups of oil companies. Is Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Turners. Clubs : Garrick, East India and Sports.

VINCENT, Philip Conrad, A.M.I.P.B. Managing Director, Vincent " H.R.D." Co. Ltd., Stevenage, Herts. Born London, 14th March, 19o8. Educated Harrow and King's College, Cambridge. Spent first 12 years of life in Argentina. On leaving Cambridge, founded present Motor-cycle manufacturing firm. At age of 19, patented springing system still used on Vincent Motorcycles. Subsequent designs include powerful range of Motor-cycles and patented Marine and Industrial Two-stroke Uniflow Engines. Life Member, R.A.C. President, Vincent "H.R.D." Owners' Club.
