This is an organization associating a large group of British Engineering Manufacturers, whose products are I famous in all parts of the world for their high standard of quality and efficiency.

The twelve principal Works occupy some 200 acres and give employment to 10,000 British workpeople. They are run on up-to-date lines, and the manufacturing methods are constantly being improved by the introduction of the most efficient machinery.

AVELING and PORTER LIMITED, ROCHESTER, who produced the first steam roller in 1867, have been the leading makers of steam rollers ever since. Their latest design embodies important improvements producing greater fuel economy, better steam raising, more power reserve, combined with lower maintenance costs. In addition to a complete range of standard 3-wheel type steam rollers, they make quick reverse tandem steam rollers and a full range of crude oil rollers, with slow-speed, single-cylinder engines of great simplicity, making them ideal for unskilled or native labour. Concrete mixers of various sizes are also made.

BARFORD and PERKINS LIMITED, PETERBOROUGH, by far the largest makers of motor rollers for road construction and maintenance, paths, sports grounds, etc., recently introduced the high-speed diesel engined roller, the most economical road roller yet made. This firm have an immense business also in garden rollers, "Cleena Milk” sterilising chests, and other dairy plant, low-pressure steam boilers, steam-cooking apparatus, etc.

E. H. BENTALL and COMPANY LIMITED, HEYBRIDGE, MALDON, arc famous the world over for their food-preparing machinery: chaff-cutters, root-cleaners cutters and elevators, ensilage cutters, corn-crushers, kibblers, grinding mills and screens.

In recent years they have established a reputation in coffee-growing countries for their coffee machinery. A recent addition to their products is the first successful mechanical poultry plucking machine. An improved mower has just been brought out, and the firm also makes small petrol and paraffin engines.

BLACKSTONE and COMPANY LIMITED, STAMFORD, makers of the famous Blackstone oil engine, petrol a. paraffin engines, petrol- electric lighting sets, unchokeable pumps, harvesting machinery, stone and plate mills, turnip cutters, etc. Their "Spring Injection" heavy-fuel-oil engine, made in sizes from 5 to 1200 B.H.P., provides the cheapest power known for the small workshop or large factory. Recently they introduced a range of self-contained crude oil engines with hopper cooling.

PETER BROTHERHOOD LIMITED, PETERBOROUGH, make. of compressors for air, ammonia or other gases, refrigerating plants, high-speed steam engine for marine and land work, steam turbines, turbo-generators, water-cooling towers, petrol paraffin and crude oil engines, and the "Peterbro'" agricultural and industrial tractor. A great feature is made of designing special machinery to solve clients' individual problems.

BULL MOTORS LIMITED, IPSWICH, manufacture high grade electric motors and generators, both A.C. and D.C. Special safeguards against electrical breakdown are provided by the use of reinforced mica insulation and vacuum impregnation of all windings.

CLARKE'S CRANK and FORGE COMPANY LIMITED, LINCOLN, specialise in the manufacture of crankshafts and forgings. The Works are equipped with a number of special lathes a. other machines, enabling them to give precision work at competitive prices. Powerful steam hammers a 1,200-ton press enable them to handle very large forgings.

DAVEY, PAXMAN and COMPANY LIMITED, COLCHESTER, makers and originators of the "Economic" steam boiler. Not only does this type boiler effect great economies in fuel, but being only about half the length of a Lancashire boiler of equal steaming capacity, considerable savings are effected in space occupied…….
