James Caldwell

Career:
- 1905-20, Partner in consulting firm of James E. Sayers and Caldwell, Electrical Engineers, Glasgow.
- War service with Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, R.E., and War Office; later at the Admiralty as deputy Asst. Director of Materials and Supt. of Welding and Labour Saving; also visited America for service with United States Shipping Board and War Dept., at Washington.
- 1917-18 Responsible for early applications of electric welded construction, including a cross-Channel barge, and
- 1919-21 several factory buildings.
- 1919 Awarded Telford Premium, Inst.C.E.
- 1922 Paris Premium, I.E.E.
- 1930-37 retained by the Quasi-Arc Co., Ltd., to extend the development of electric welding to steel construction.
- 1931 Inspected welded undertakings throughout the British Empire, and
- 1936 in the U.S.A
- Chairman, Motor Mutual Insurance Co., Ltd.;
- Director, Union Welding Co., Ltd., H.G.M. Trust and Mount Magnet Gold Mines, Ltd.;
