1899 "A few words might be interesting on the home of the engines illustrated. The Britannia Works, Ardwick, Manchester are excellently planned for their manufacture. At the entrance are the offices, behind which on the ground floor are the fitting and erecting shops, some views. On the first floor are also erecting and fitting shops for small engines and here we saw over thirty being completed for one order. On the second floor are the pattern shops. The works are fitted throughout with modern machine tools, and every appliance available foe enabling work to be turned out at minimum coast.
