J. F. Lovelock (Engineers) of Hackney
Hardware manufacturers of domestic appliances.
Their place of manufacture was always called Broadway Works but in adverts spanning 1880-1899 the street name is variously George Street, Hamburg Street and 201 Mare Street. George Street had its name changed to Hamburg Street some time between 1882 and 1887 (and that changed again to its present name of Croston Street in 1918).
The move to Mare Street by 1891 was an attempt to go up-market.
1921 London Street Directory lists them as still being in Mare Street: 'Lovelock Jas F & Sons Ltd, engineers (Broadway Works)'
The firm was diversifying and, besides mincing machines and suet choppers, included an 'improved' coffee mill (from 1882) and a knife-cleaning machine (1899).
