"WILLIAM WRIGHT LOGAN, B.Sc., who was born in Buenos Aires in 1899, spent the whole of his professional career in that city. He left the Argentine at an early age and on the completion of his general education at George Watson's College, Edinburgh, in 1917, was commissioned as second-lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery.
On demobilization in 1919 he studied for a brief period at the University of Edinburgh and later took an engineering course at Glasgow University, where he graduated B.Sc. in 1924. In the meantime he served his apprenticeship with the Ailsa Shipbuilding Co, of Troon, and with Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox, Ltd., at Renfrew. He then returned to Buenos Aires and was employed in the lift department of Messrs. Agar Cross, Ltd., first as assistant and later as engineer.
Subsequently he was engaged by Messrs. Balfour Beatty and Company, Ltd., as construction superintendent, and was placed in charge of the erection of power and rotary sub-stations. In 1930 he joined the staff of the British Structural Steel Co, a subsidiary of Messrs. Dorman Long and Company, Ltd., as technical assistant, and subsequently was appointed works manager, a position he retained until his death, which occurred on 28th January 1949. Mr. Logan was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1924, and became an Associate Member in 1926, and Member twelve years later."
