WILLIAM WALLACE, a native of Oldham, was born on 14th September 1873, and was educated at the Werneth Academy and Manchester Grammar School.
After further technical education at Oldham Technical School he became an apprenticed draughtsman at the works of Messrs. Platt, Bros. and Co., of Oldham, where he received training in tool, textile and general machine design.
In 1893 he became a draughtsman in the Millwright's Department of the same firm, and in 1900 was appointed Manager to Messrs. W. E. Rowlands and Co., Liverpool.
He left this firm the following year to join the Hele-Shaw Patent Clutch Co., Ltd., of Liverpool as Manager, and this position he held until his death on 3rd August 1926.
During the War he was in charge of the department of Messrs. Platt Bros. and Co., Ltd., producing war material.
In March 1925 he was elected a director of the Hele-Shaw Clutch Co., Ltd., and of late years acted in a consulting capacity to Messrs. Platt Bros., Oldham.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1910.
