WILLIAM LILLEY BOON was born at Ashton-under-Lyne on 20th November 1883, was educated at Macdonald's High School, Bombay, and subsequently at Albion Science Schools, Ashton-under-Lyne, and at the Victoria University, Manchester.

He was apprenticed to Messrs. J. Hetherington and Sons, Ltd., Manchester, and after a short introduction to business life in the local branch of the Manchester and Liverpool District Bank, he joined the Firm of James C. Fell, Ltd., Textile Machinists, Ashton, as assistant engineer and soon afterwards was appointed Manager.

In 1905 he took charge of the whole business, becoming Managing Director and Secretary. His death occurred on 13th March 1926.

He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1917.
