WILLIAM HENRY COLE, born on the 25th October, 1854, died on the 7th July, 1916.
Passing out of Coopers Hill College in 1876, he entered the Indian Public Works Department, and was posted to Rajputana, where he was engaged on railway survey and construction.
From 1885 to 1898, when he retired from Government service, he was engaged on the Sind-Sagar, North Western, and Eastern Bengal State Railways.
Subsequently he served on the staff of the Uganda Railway Committee and as Secretary to the Madras Railway Company.
He was the author of "Notes on Permanent Way" and "Light Railways at Home and Abroad."
At the time of his last illness, he was on inspection duty at Woolwich Arsenal.
Mr. Cole was elected an Associate Member on the 12th January, 1892, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 14th May, 1895.
