1924 Obituary [1]

WILLIAM H. MORRIS died at his residence, Villa Nova, Pennsylvania, on January 11, 1924.

He was born in Philadelphia in 1846, and graduated from Haverford College.

In 1867 he became a member of the firm of Morris, Wheeler & Co., iron merchants, which firm was established in 1829.

In 1875 he became President of the Pottstown Iron Co., and under his management the company increased its field of activity; the output increasing from 9,000 tons to 300,000 tons yearly. The company, in addition to producing merchant and universal plate, also made cut nails, producing its own pig iron, and operating a steel plant, using the basic Bessemer process. The nail factory, one of the largest in the Eastern States, was one of the first manufacturing plants to be lighted by electricity.
