William George Causer (1846-1926)

1926 Obituary [1]

WILLIAM GEORGE CAUSER was born at Birmingham on 5th January 1846.

His early education was at St. Mark's School, Birmingham, and he served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Samuel Fisher and Co. of Nile Street Foundry, Birmingham.

Later he joined the staff of Messrs. Tangye Brothers, Cornwall Works, Birmingham, as Draughtsman and advanced to a responsible position with that firm.

He subsequently commenced business on his own account, as an engineer, and latterly, for some thirty years, practised as a Consulting Mechanical Engineer in Birmingham, continuing to take an active interest in mechanical problems, despite a prolonged illness, until his death on 29th July 1926.

Mr. Causer was chiefly associated with hydraulic engineering, and designed and superintended the installation of several heavy chain-testing machines.

He was at one time Art Master at the Birmingham School of Art, and Science Master at the old Dudley Mechanics' Institute, and the Birmingham Midland Institute.

He became a Member of this Institution in 1892.
